  1. ** IMPORTANT **
  2. ---------------
  3.     If you are a registered DogWorld v1.x user, please read the file:
  4.     NEWKEYS.DOC before installing DogWorld ][!
  5.  
  6.     When unzipping the main DogWorld archive (DGWRL200.ZIP), it is
  7.   required that new files in the archive overwrite any old files
  8.   that may exist in a previous version of DogWorld. If you unzipped
  9.   this archive into an existing DogWorld directory, and you said no
  10.   to the "do you want to overwrite" message, then your installation
  11.   will probably fail. You should go back now and unzip the main archive
  12.   again using the -o switch, ie. "PKUNZIP -o DGWRL200.ZIP". That will
  13.   force pkzip to unzip and overwrite any old files. Then use the new
  14.   UNPACK.BAT file to unpack the DogWorld ][ game files.

  17. DOGWORLD ][ v2.01 Quick Install
  18.  
  19. New Installation:
  20.  
  21.       If you are running multinode, you should have share.exe (or equivalent)
  22.     installed.
  23.  
  24. STEP 1:
  25.  
  26.       Unzip the DogWorld ][ archive into an empty directory by running the
  27.     batch file - "UNPACK.BAT". You will need to have a copy of Pkunzip
  28.     somewhere in your path for the batch file to work. The file DOG201.RES
  29.     is a normal zip archive.

  31. STEP 2:
  32.  
  33.       Run DOGEDIT.EXE. Setup your bbs nodes and starting game settings inside
  34.     DogEdit. Under "Game Options" run (H)..Reset Whole Game, so that the
  35.     number of days the game has been running will be correct.

  37. STEP 3:
  38.  
  39.       Modify the batch file DOG1.BAT to match your system and setup
  40.     your BBS to run this batch file.
  41.  
  42.     HINT! Some BBS's run doors directly. In those cases, the
  43.           DOG1.BAT file will not be needed. Just make sure your
  44.           BBS package changes into the DogWorld ][ directory and
  45.           executes the command "DOG.EXE /N:x" (where x is the node number).

  47.           (Refer to your BBS documentaion for more info on setting up doors).

  49. ** IMPORTANT NOTE TO LANTASTIC USERS!! **
  50. If you run Lantastic you should also run the batch file: DO-LAN.BAT
  51. so that the main DogWorld ][ files are marked as read-only. This is very
  52. important!!

  54. Upgrading from a previous version:
  55.  
  56.     WARNING!! It is always a good idea to backup your entire DogWorld ][
  57. directory before attempting an upgrade. If something does go wrong, it
  58. is better to be safe than sorry!
  59.  
  60. STEP 1
  61.  
  62.       Run the batch file NO-LAN.BAT to turn off the read-only attribute
  63.     on the main DogWorld ][ files. (if you previously ran DO-LAN.BAT).
  64.       Unzip the DogWorld ][ archive inside your existing directory by running
  65.     the file - UNPACK.BAT. The batch file will unzip DogWorld ][ and will
  66.     preserve all your old settings, players, one-liner dialog, daily news,
  67.     and enemies.

  69. STEP 2
  70.  
  71.       Run DOGEDIT.EXE and turn on "multinode" support if you are running on
  72.     a network. (share or equivalent must be installed for multinode support)
  73.     Run the batch file - DO-LAN.BAT if you are running on a LAN.
